Beyond Counting: Theorizing Minorities across Southeast Europe and Connected Regions (Graz, 23.-24. November 2026)
This workshop brings together scholars from Political Science, Law, Sociology, Religious Studies, and other fields to explore how minorities can be understood beyond numerical definitions. The workshop asks how minority status is shaped by social and political contexts, and how groups’ identities and positions may shift across different settings. Through presentations, discussion, reflective activities, and a collaborative poster session, participants will consider theoretical approaches and examples relating to religious, ethnic, linguistic, migrant, and transnational communities. The geographical focus is Southeast Europe, with perspectives from connected regions.
