History of the Department
The Department for Religious Studies at the Faculty of Catholic Theology in Graz has been founded in 1978 and originated withinin a chair for Biblical Theology established in 1967. The traditional relation to this discipline had a lot to do with the founding figure and first professor, Claus Schedl. It definitely shaped the history of the department for a long time. Currently, the department is fully committed to the discipline of religious studies with a cultural studies orientation.
