The importance of religious traditions is dwindling. At the same time, voices are being raised that see religion as a "supplement" to modern society. But history warns us to be cautious. Franz Winter has written an article on the complex interrelationship between religions and democracy for the current issue of the weekly magazine "Die Furche".
