In der Bibel wird die Katze nur einmal erwähnt – im wenig bekannten Buch Baruch. In diversen Märtyrerlegenden tauchen Großkatzen als Hinrichtungswerkzeuge auf. Und die schwarze Katze steht für den Teufel selbst. Keine guten Voraussetzungen also – trotzdem zählt die Katze auch unter gläubigen Christinnen und Christen zu den beliebtesten Haustieren. Im Islam hat sie einen deutlich besseren Ruf.
